Eagle Guidance and Counseling Program
The purpose of the Guidance and Counseling Program is to support home and school efforts and to promote students' academic/educational, personal, and career development. It is an integral part of each school's total educational program. The program is designed to:
-
Foster positive attitudes toward school learning, and work
-
Improve academic achievement
-
Encourage personal responsibility
-
Foster respect for self and others
What Are the Major Responsibilities of the School Counselor?
- Counseling both small groups of students and individual students with personal and academic concerns
- Addressing needs of students in classroom guidance activities
- Consulting with teachers, staff, and parents about meeting the developmental needs of all students
- Referring students with severe problems to appropriate community resources after consultation with their parents
- Coordination of PLAN testing, State Writing Assessments, PSAT, and the AHSGE
- Assisting students with financial aid and scholarship resources; college, university and military information
How is a Student Referred to the School Counselor?
Students may be referred to the counselor by parents, teachers, administrators, peers, or they may self refer.
Students may come by the counseling offices between classes and complete a referral form. The counselor will then call the student out of class (preferably an elective) at an appropriate time.
Students with urgent needs may also make their requests known to their classroom teachers. The teacher can then complete a referral form for the counselor.
