Thank you for visiting Ozark City Schools' Website. Our district is totally committed to achieving excellence in every area of responsibility regarding the education of our children. We are equally committed to improving our community through collaboration and partnerships with parents as well as civic, government, religious and business organizations within Ozark and Dale County. We know that student success depends on these partnerships as well as partnerships with post-secondary institutions located through-out the Southeast.

Ozark City Schools is proud of our accomplishments and we are proud of our students’ accomplishments. Whether it is on the academic measures that determine Annual Yearly Progress or the athletic fields of competition, our commitment to preparing students with 21st century knowledge and skills is unwavering. Our graduates are well prepared to enter the world of work or go on to higher education. Here are some highlights of our district.

Thompkins Early Childhood Center is recognized across Alabama as a premier example of a kindergarten facility that recognizes the importance of laying a strong learning foundation. Our local partnerships with Headstart, Right Track Pre-school, and other church and private child care facilities continue to result in students who are “school ready” when they get to Thompkins. And, Thompkins sends its students on to Elementary School well prepared.

Mixon and Lisenby elementary schools have each been nationally recognized as a Renaissance Learning Master Accelerated Reader School. Both schools have achieved excellence in the core subject areas and that standard is reflected on their state accountability tests which reflect some of the highest scores in the region. Both schools have a remarkably strong and caring staff and they are dedicated to ensuring success for every student.

D.A. Smith Middle School has a staff that is totally committed to its students both in the classroom and in all the extracurricular activities that are available. The gymnasium at D. A. Smith has been totally renovated and other upgrades and renovations throughout the school have recently been accomplished. The school boasts a diverse student population that has, over the years, been a source of pride for the community for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the fields of competition.

Carroll High School, the flagship of our fleet, has numerous programs and activities that are unavailable in other schools in the region and we are continuing to grow. The high school staff is a dynamic group of educators who have developed instructional strategies programs that go far beyond what are available in most high schools. This dedication and commitment are strongly evidenced in the schools annual accountability scores and extracurricular program accomplishments. Carroll High School students distinguished themselves in many areas. The JROTC Drill Team competed in Daytona at The National Drill Competition where they placed 5th overall and with an individual national championship. In HOSA competition, students from the Career Center competed locally, state and nationally, and we are pleased to have the state vice-president as one of our students. The girls’ and boys’ soccer and basketball teams advanced to the state playoffs and, the Class of 2010 earned over in 1.6 million dollars in scholarship money.

The Opportunity Academy, in its second year of operation, has become a role model for educational innovation throughout the state. It continues to provide students with credit recovery, credit acceleration and behavior modification.

Each entity of Ozark City Schools is committed to student and community success. We know the challenges that face our schools, our city, and our nation. However, Ozark City School students will excel in the world that awaits them.  We invite our community leaders, parents and other stakeholders to partner with us as we look forward to a year of continued success. Thank you for visiting our web site. Please take a few minutes to visit our schools’ web sites linked to this page.
