  • New and Upcoming: SMART Board interactive whiteboard is used to further the students learning experience, providing the teacher with an easy interface to teach using AutoCad and various other programs. Soon to incorporate the CAD software Solid Edge and a state of the art 3-D printer into the learning envirnoment.  Each student's workstation is equipped with state of the art computers and 720p HD monitors that swivel to further enhance the CAD learning experience. Newly introduced video tutorials allow  students to learn step by step at their own pace. SynchronEyes classroom management software connects the teacher directly to the student's workstation, allowing the teacher to monitor the student's progress and provide aid if needed.
  • During the 2005-2006 school year, the Career Center was selected twice by Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) to provide training to AutoCad for personnel seeking employment with New Millennium, a local drafting company.  AIDT's selection of the Career Center is a sign of the strength of the drafting program, the skill of the instructor (Tony Sullivan), and the state-of-the-art instruction available to Career Center students.
  • Drafting is designed as a two or three year program for students in grades nine through twelve.  The program's curriculum is designed to provide necessary skills for students whether their goal is drawing to scale, becoming a draftsman, becoming an architect, or becoming an engineer.  The students develop skill using drafting instruments and gain valuable knowledge and experience using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) applications.  The students acquire knowledge about various jobs associated with the drafting field, learn both hand and computer aided lettering, and develop dimensioning/sectioning skills.  Each of the courses is designed to build on the previous course.  Practical skills and related knowledge are taught through theory classes and hands-on laboratory experiences as well as the student organization, SkillsUSA.
  • After completing the drafting program, students will possess the skills necessary to seek employment with local drafting businesses or continue their education in a two or four year college.
  • Articulation Information:  Through an articulation agreement, students transferring to Wallace College may recieve up to one term of college credit.
