Research has shown that children construct knowledge
from within. According to Piaget, social interaction is
essential in order for young children to construct
knowledge and develop logic, but the construction is
internal. Young children need to explore materials,
work independently and collaboratively, and participate
in problem solving situations. Through these
experiences, young children are able to construct and
develop social, physical, and logico-mathematical
knowledge. The curriculum at Thompkins Early
Childhood Center provides unlimited opportunities for
young children to construct these types of knowledge.
