Mission Statement

  • The mission of our athletic program is to provide opportunities in which students can acquire skills, experience leadership, and grow personally. All students are encouraged to participate and learn to balance academics, athletics, and the arts. Our goal is to provide a positive experience for the student-athlete on and off the field of competition. Every athlete, from the novice to the advanced player, has a place in our programs. The Athletic Department aligns with the school system’s mission to strive to engage and challenge all student-athletes to succeed through a variety of learning opportunities coupled with highly effective instruction.

Athletic Department Objectives

  • To provide a quality program for all student-athletes:

Provide the student-athlete with an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Keep student-athlete safety and welfare at the forefront of everything we do.

To give quality instruction in the fundamentals of each sport offered:

    Specific athletics skills and strategies.

Promote sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and fair play.

To be an integral part of the secondary school curriculum:

Inspire all athletes to give their best in the classroom and the athletic environment.

Stress the importance of self-discipline in both the classroom, the community, and on the field.

Teach our athletes that dignity, self-worth, and self-esteem are achieved through hard work.

To create a positive school climate that is enhanced when student-athletes and the remaining student population work together as a team to represent the school in the best way possible.

Develop concepts of goal attainment through hard work and self-discipline, and to provide a vehicle for the development of interest in academic programs and post-secondary education opportunities.

To make the athletic program a source of both school and community pride:

Help each athlete to interact positively with the faculty, community, and fellow students.

Make the team a positive influence on all who come into contact with it.

To demonstrate the social competence of operating within a set of rules, thus gaining a respect for the rights, and an understanding of the consequences that follow rule violations.

The main objective of the OCS Athletic Department is to foster an environment of cooperation with the school, the OCS administration, the system as a whole, and community stakeholders.
