Ozark City Schools honors and salutes Mr. Michael Lenhart. We offer his family our condolences during their time of bereavement. Mr. Lenhart, who served as superintendent of Ozark City Schools from 2007 until 2014,passed away on September 12, 2022. Mr. Lenhart was a visionary leader who believed in providing all students with opportunities to succeed. He was a catalyst for the reconstruction of Carroll High School in 2013, as well as many other projects.
Following his graduation from the University of Southern Colorado in 1971, Mr. Lenhart was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the United States Army. He completed Airborne and Ranger Training, and was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with Silver Oak Leaf cluster, and the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star.
Mr. Lenhart retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1994 in Montgomery, AL, where he continued his education at Auburn University at Montgomery earning both his Masters in Education and his Masters in Education Administration, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate as one of AUM's top 50 alumni. His career in education would eventually lead him to Ozark, AL, where he was the Superintendent of Ozark City Schools from 2007 until 2014. Mr. Lenhart retired for a second time after serving 18 years in education.
We extend our sincere condolences and prayers to his wife Linda, their two daughters Amy and Kim, his grandchildren, the rest of his family, and his many friends.
A Memorial service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022, at 11:00 am at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home and Crematory in Opelika, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Disabled American Veterans (dav.org) charity.
